What is the first thing you do in the morning?
I’ve recently changed my morning routine to modify some of my personal habits. Things like taking a very cold shower first thing (wakes you up quick) and getting some eggs, beans and spinach into my stomach. Then – I am awake and can really engage my day…
While my old routine was to get out of bed and open my bible first thing… I would have to be honest – I found myself RE-reading most of my first 15 minutes. I also found that I wasn’t being very purposeful in that time – I was simply “doing” it.
Why the routine change?
It’s all part of the transition God is doing on the inside of me.
- 1 – Changing a LOT of things within, irregardless of the things on the outside.
- 2 – It’s been taking a disciplined lifestyle and applying it to every area of my life.
What time I get up, what my time with God looks like, my goals for that time and my desires in honoring HIM.
Not just by happenstance or even habit.
Wait – habits are good right?!?!?!
Habits are patterns of behavior that no longer require thought.
Question: Do I really want to have my time with God become a habit?
To become a habit and no longer requiring thought in order to do it?
In order to see CHANGE – real change – we have to move our time with God from Habit to Heart – the place where it consumes my desires, my processes of thought, my initial reactions.
So back to the first question – what do you do first thing in the morning?
- Are you on a path?
- Are you walking it out?
- Are you checking facebook first thing, out of habit?
Deuteronomy 6:7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
